Baseball 101: have you ever wondered what K&K mean when they talk about a pitcher “in/out of the stretch,” like they did last inning about Corbin? Here’s a brief description: when there are no runners on base the pitcher can throw from the windup. Just like it sounds, the pitcher can swing his arm, leg, whatever to get torc to get velocity (speed).

When runners are on base he has to pitch from the stretch. This means he must have the ball in his glove, stop anywhere between his chest & waist, then deliver the ball from that position. He has to stop completely before throwing the ball. No winding up, no leg kick or extension. If he does not stop, any umpire can call a balk and each runner advances a base. Make sense?
