I got a lot of questions about last night's win over the Dbacks from people who couldn't watch, missed some key plays, etc. so I'm going to try and recap the best I can. If you want to watch any of the plays, go to YouTube or MLB At Bat.
It was a very dramatic game! It started off when Jean Segura hit a homer off Samardzija's very first pitch, then AZ scored another run in the first to put us behind by 2. The Shark was a little off his rhythm for a few innings but settled down by the 3rd.
In the second, AZ pitcher Patrick Corbin tried to nail Buster not just once, but twice. Luckily, Buster is exceptionally good at avoiding fast balls that are purposefully hurled at his body. Bochy came out to complain and was ejected. Both benches were warned not to escalate this thing into a fight.
Buster ended up walking, and then Clutch Crawford came up to bat and did what he does: blast a 2 run homer to tie up the game and give us our momentum back. He did a very subtle bat flip and slow trot around the bases as if to say "you mess with my boy, and I'll take you DOWN!"
In the 3rd, Samarzija scored when Buster reached base on a throwing error and Crawford singled in Belt. In the 5th, Posey scored when Green was walked. Last but not least, in the 8th, Blanco blasted his first career home run as a pinch hitter! The Snakes never scored again after the first. And they're still in the basement of the NLW!
The Serge Protector is back and pitched a shut out inning, so our bullpen is feeling slightly better. There were a few other exciting events, like the Dbacks Manager getting ejected too when he argued that Samardzija purposely hit Segura, Span made a killer catch to save some runs late in the game, and Crawford hit for 3 legs of the cycle. I think he'll do it this season!
In post game interviews, Samardzija was asked if he believes in Karma? His reply: something like "not really, baseball has its own way of working things out." There are many unspoken rules between the players about respect and retaliation, etc. All in all, it was a really great game - my favorite to date. But I know that much more excitement is yet to come in this even year! We're going in to the AS break on top in the NLW and with the best record in MLB. Let's go Giants! ⚾️
Next game, today at 1 on CSNBA. Should be interesting!
