According to multiple beat writers, the Marlins have agreed to the general framework of Giancarlo Stanton trades with both the Cardinals and the Giants; the deals are on hold, while the Marlins wait for the 28 year old to inform them whether he’d accept either trade.

I’ve read that Stanton wants to play on the west coast, and preferably in LA, so I’d guess he is also in talks with the Dodgers, but this has not been confirmed.

The rumored names and numbers are the Marlins’ Stanton (RF) and Dee Gordon (2B), in exchange for Panik plus top prospects Chris Shaw (LF) and Tyler Beede (SP) and possibly some number of draft picks. The contract number I’m reading most often is in the neighborhood of $250 million. The Marlins will have to absorb the remainder of his contract.

Stanton is in full control here, as he’s got an iron clad no-trade clause in his contract. He will most certainly have to give that up for any other team to take him at a salary he’s happy with - but stranger things have happened!

I’m going to take an educated guess here and say that most, if not all, of you would love to have Stanton and his power swing join our Gmen. I know that a lot of you will be upset at the prospect of losing Joe. Unfortunately, I can’t find the article I read this morning that stated why Panik would not be a good trade/fit for the Marlins, nor why. So there is always the possibility that we could gain the 2017 NL HR and RBI leader, as well as MVP, and still retain our beloved Joe Cool. I hope so, but I doubt it.

Talk amongst yourselves, I have the flu so I’m headed back to bed!
