THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH: Joe was being politically correct. "Let’s not compare eras," and "“I think that it’s really hard to put anyone in that bucket,” Montana said. Let's just call Brady's era (which he has performed exceptionally well) as the era of "Pussy soft QBs,"do not touch the quarterback and watch out when and how DBs hit their wide-outs too! Yes, it is now done due to concern to better protect the players, but never the less, as result you can't fairly compare the players performance or their stats then and now! Speaking as a long fan, the one thing that has always bothered me about Brady and other vet QBs in this era, how they start crying for a call to Ref that do not give them a protective flag if they are hit or touched. You never saw this during Joe's era. In fact, they performed at a high level even despite they knew they would get leveled or knocked out! There were a few game when Brady got leveled or knocked as his ass, he often lost most of those games compared to Joe that perform to win despite those hits! One of many examples, "Philadelphia's Buddy's defense led by Reggie White to absolutely pounded Montana with 8 sacks during the game and it looked like this one was going to be a laugher as the host Eagles took a 21-10 lead. But Joe led the 49ers to 4 more touchdown drives in the fourth quarter (and 28 points in total) to win 38-28. Joe had 5 TD passes come back to beat an Outstanding Defensive team in Sept. 25, 1989! Further, Joe didn't need FGs to win this SBs and never threw a interception in any SB. And Joe played for a Coach that did not need to do uncover filming or cheat or deflate a ball to get an edge to defeat their opponent. So Mr. " pussy" Brady, you are good and will go to HOF but you do not compare! However, at home Joe was quoted by his wife saying, "I was the greatest and don't you forget it!

Joe Montana won’t call Tom Brady, or anyone, best QB ever

Let’s not compare eras, Montana said — much like our columnist Mark Purdy argued last month.
